The Berbice Cricket Board in its ongoing effort to play cricket at all levels will on Wednesday 12th of September 2012, create history by hosting the first ever under 21 knock out cricket tournament in Berbice. The competition is sponsored by Elizabeth Styles and involves twelve teams in Berbice namely: Blairmont, Rose Hall Town, Edinburgh, Bermine, Albion, No 70, West Berbice, Police, Skeldon, Bush Lot United, Young Warriors and Port Mourant. The matches will be of 50 overs a side.
Chairman of the Special Events Committee of the BCB, Hilbert Foster explained that the BCB’s main aim is to play cricket at the under 13, 15, 17, 19 and under 21 levels. It will help the board to monitor the growth and development of every player. The junior selection will be viewing the matches and a team will be selected to play several matches in Georgetown and other parts of the Country.
Only players born on or after September 1, 1991 will be allowed to take part in the competition. The games will be played with white clothing, red balls and white sightscreens.
Fixtures for the opening round on September 12 are:
Blairmont vs Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets @Blairmont
Edinburgh vs Bermine @ Edinburgh
lbion vs No 70 Young Star @ Albion
West Berbice vs Police @West Berbice
Skeldon vs Bush Lot United @ Skeldon
Young Warriors vs Port Mourant @ Cumberland
Some of the players expected to take part in the tournament are Harrinarine Chattergoon, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Linden Austin, Kevin Ramdeen, Shimron Hetmeyer, Joemal LaFleur, Clinton Pestano, Dominic Rikhi, Shawn Perreira, Keon DeJesus, Parmanand Narine, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai and Loyydel Lewis. All matches start at 9.30AM.
