Labourer shot dead, body burnt at Corentyne citrus farm

Police are questioning three men following the discovery of the charred remains of 25-year old labourer Madan Ramkerat called ‘Rakesh’, on a farm located in an area called Tiger Creek, some 15 miles up the Corentyne River.
The three men, a 39-year old businessman who owns the farm, his 60-year old brother and the brother of the victim, were all taken into custody after they reported the gruesome discovery. They subsequently took police to the scene.
Police officials could not be reached last night to confirm the discovery of the body, which according to reports, bore two gunshot wounds to the centre of the chest.
Reliable sources have informed this newspaper that Ramkerat called ‘Rakesh’ or ‘Pencil’, was taken to the farm by the owner sometime on Saturday last.
He was left there in a camp to overlook what the owner described as a citrus farm.
The owner told police that he had taken the labourer to clear portions of the farm which was previously abandoned.
One source disclosed that the owner and Ramkerat’s brother returned to the farm yesterday and reportedly found the camp burnt to the ground.
Further checks revealed Ramkerat’s partially burnt nude body, a short distance away.
Contact was made with the police who travelled to the farm and retrieved the body which is currently at the Skeldon Mortuary.
Police recovered a six-guage spent cartridge from the scene.
