The entries are in, and registration for the Neal and Massy Group’s AinLim 10km Road Race officially closed yesterday at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters with both male and female defending champs among the registrants to compete on Sunday.
According to Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Office Manager, Shanomae Blackmore, some 20
entrants were received in the Male Open category with defending champion, Cleveland Forde among a field that also includes, Cleveland Thomas, Dennis Horatio, Tyshon Bentick and Jamaul Chisholm.
Five females have registered in the Open Female category with defending champion, Alika Morgan among them. Ashanti Scott and Jevina Straker have also registered along with Adama Roberts.
In the junior category, Devon Barrington leads seven male registrants while entrants were also received for the Masters 40-55 and Masters 55 and over categories. The entry list suggests that all the big names of local distance runners have registered.
The race will start at Diamond at 6am on the East Bank of Demerara and finish outside the company’s Ruimveldt office while there will be a 3km Fitness Walk/Jog that is expected to start at the Demerara Harbour Bridge and finish at the same location.
The event promises a nationwide expansion next year for the third edition with Neal and Massy Group CEO stating that he is impressed with the level of growth the event has made in its two years of existence.
The road race will dole out a top prize of $75,000 with second place taking home $60,000, third place $40,000, fourth place $15,000 and fifth place $10,000 in the male and female open groups, with a trophy accompanying each cash prize.
The top three prizes for the Masters 35 years and above and 40-55 years are $40,000, $20,000 and $15,000 while the Masters 55 years and above take home $25,000, $15,000 and $7,500. Juniors take home $50,000, $30,000, $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively for both male and female categories. (Edison Jefford)
