After securing the assistance from the public to pay for a $3M kidney transplant, 31-year-old Kampta Shivsankar of lot 674 Best Village, West Coast Demerara, is currently on the road to recovery.
The transplant was successfully done earlier this month at the Balwant Singh Hospital.
Shivsankar had initially told Kaieteur News that he was forced to spend all his savings to facilitate his $45,000 weekly dialysis treatment which lasted for about a year, and could not provide the money needed for the actual surgery.
Hence via this newspaper, he appealed to the public for financial donations since he had already secured a donor.
The man, during a recent interview, explained that while he did receive some donations from the public, it was a friend who decided to lend him the money needed to save his life.
In addition to surgery and treatment expenses, Shivsankar also has to pay for medical treatments for him and his donor for the next year, until they both recover.
The father of one is thankful that he now has a new lease on life, and hopes that he can soon return to work. However, medical officials have advised that he can only do so after a year of rest.
Shivsankar is eager to get back work to repay the money he owes his friend, and be a good father in providing for his child.
