A 19-year-old vendor was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully wounding a police rank.
The accused, Kevin Rodney, of 6A Water Street Georgetown, is alleged to have committed the act on August 23 at the Brickdam Police Station.
The court was told that on the day in question, Rodney, an inmate at the Brickdam lock-ups, unlawfully wounded Neil Abrahams, a peace officer acting in execution of his duty. Rodney was represented by Attorney At Law Paul Fung–A–Fat, who requested that his client be given pre-trial liberty.
However, Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick opposed the bail submission on the grounds that the accused was incarcerated at the Brickdam lock-ups pending an investigation for robbery under arms when he unlawfully wounded the officer.
The magistrate refused bail and Rodney was ordered to return to court on October 2.
