A senior official of the Guyana Fire Service has stated that investigators have not yet concluded their investigation into last Monday’s fire at the Vivienne Parris Health Centre at Spieghtland, Central Mackenzie, Linden.
This publication was told yesterday that the probe has not yet been completed, hence no pronouncement has been or will be made until such time. There has been speculation that the fire may have been yet another arson attack on the community. There are also reports that the fire may have been electrical in origin. However the fire official said that there will be no assumptions given all that has been recently happening in the mining town. Some 10 buildings have been gutted by fires over the past month.
In the wee hours of Monday morning a section of the Health Centre, which provides service for almost 400 persons each month, was damaged by fire.
According to reports, the area that was badly affected was the pharmacy. Most of the old patient records were destroyed. The Statistics Department which contains records of new patients was, however, still intact.
