The driver of this car lost control early yesterday morning and crashed into the base of the New Amsterdam Town Arch located at Main Street.
According to security guards working nearby, they heard a loud crash just after 06:00 hrs in the vicinity of the arch. The front of the car was smashed in.
The driver was nowhere to be found and the number plates of the vehicle were missing. The base of the left side of the structure was badly damaged. The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) commissioned the $1.4M arch in June 2010.
The arch which is situated on the Main Road in the vicinity of Vryheid Street and Princess Elizabeth Road was erected in observance of the 34th Anniversary of Community Policing Groups in Guyana and coincided with Guyana’s 44th Independence Anniversary.
