The discovery of the lifeless body of a guest at a Hotel on Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, is baffling both staff members and detectives of the Guyana Police Force.
The man who was identified as Ishmael Archer was discovered dead in his hotel room on the top floor of the three-storey building shortly before 14:00 hours yesterday.
He was in a sitting position on the floor and his head was resting on a chair.
The discovery was made by another guest who occupies a room opposite to where Ishmael was staying.
Kaieteur News understands that as he was going to his room, the guest noticed that Ishmael’s door was ajar and called out to him.
“He say, ‘Ishmael, wha happen?’ and when Ishmael didn’t answer, he look in and see he motionless,” an employee of the hotel explained.
Investigators are convinced that the man died sometime around mid-morning yesterday, since employees reported that he was last seen alive earlier in the day.
One staff member at the hotel said that a neighbor of the establishment recalled the man greeting her yesterday morning.
Ishmael, who is said to be in his late forties, has been a guest of the hotel for the past six weeks.
While no marks of violence have so far been observed on the body, police have not yet ruled out foul play and are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination.
