Malta Supreme 11-Race Cycle Meet
Robin Persaud returned his winnings ways yesterday at the National Park Inner Circuit when he captured the feature School Boys & Invitation 35 Lap race at the Banks DIH Malta Supreme 11 Race Cycle Meet.
Persaud, who has been one of the most successful riders at this venue this season, outsprinted Jude Bentley and Raynauth Jeffrey to win the contest in One Hour 20 Minutes 05 Seconds. Albert Philander, Sean Alves and Enzo Matthews closed out the top six positions in that order.
Bentley captured four (4) of the eight (8) prime prizes; Jeffrey took two (2) while there was one each for Persaud and Raul Leal.
The top three riders, Persaud, Bentley and Jeffrey broke away from the main pack from as early as the 3rd lap and never looked back.
Representing Banks DIH at the presentation ceremony was Malta Supreme Brand Manager Clayton McKenzie who complimented all the competitors for taking part to make the event another success.
He shared that Banks DIH was very pleased to be associated with cycling and the development of so many young riders. Cycling he said, keeps individuals healthy, fit and also enhances the ability for students to function better with their academics.
Also gracing the occasion with his presence was another Banks DIH Manager, Mortimer Stewart, a former National footballer. Stewart also complimented the organizers and the riders for making the event a success.
Taking the top spot in the juvenile 10 Lap showdown was Alonzo Ambrose who clocked 20 Minutes 33.91 Seconds. Christopher Hochan placed 2nd and Raul Leal 3rd.
Veteran Maurice Fagundes proved that age is just a number and fitness is key to longevity. Fagundes, a faithful competitor, who is also a middle distance runner, won the Over-60 5 Lap event from Harry Gill and Krishna Singh. He did so after competing in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport 5K race earlier yesterday morning which he also won.
