– Former national player, Damian Liverpool is dead
The basketball community was plunged into mourning last evening following the news that former national forward, Damian Liverpool, was killed in an accident. Liverpool a former student of Queen’s College and member of the Ravens Basketball Club reportedly met his death while on his way to Suriname aboard his CBR Superbike.
The Guyana national senior male basketball team that competes against the Washington D.C Jammers tonight is expected to honour Liverpool’s contributions before the game. Kaieteur Sport would like to join the basketball community, the family and friends of the late Damian Liverpool in extending condolences to the bereaved family of the basketball player.
It was also reported that reigning Superbike champion Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira was injured in the crash, but was in a stable condition and is expected to return to the country in a couple of days. Vieira according to reports suffered broken bones and facial injuries, but is anticipated to make a full recovery.
Details of the incident are still sketchy and Kaieteur Sport will make very attempt to get the full facts pertaining to the cause of the accident in a subsequent issue.
