Business School boot Queen’s College out of competition
Digicel Nationwide Schools Football Tournament
In spite of playing aggressive football Queen’s College failed to make it to the next phase of this year’s Digicel Nationwide Schools Football Tournament after they were defeated 2-1 by Business School yesterday, at the Tucville ground.
Action in the clash between Business School and Queen’s College which the former won 2-1 to advance to the next phase.
The two teams fought hard and ended the first half of the game nil all. However it was Queen’s College who scored the first goal off the boot of Stephen Rutherford in the 54th minute.
This was enough to force the Business School into action as they found an equalizer six minutes later. That goal was scored by Dequan James with the winning goal scored some five minutes later by Alister Peters.
Having gained the ascendancy, Business School seemed bent on defending their one goal advantage, but a move which was strongly condemned by Coach Barry Browne.
Browne at the end of the match said that Queen’s College played good football and that his team was just fortunate to escape with the win.
“The goals came late, but we put in another one to win which is a good morale booster for the next game. Some players are still writing exams so I don’t think we will be able to come full strength next game, but all in all was a good game, QC played well”.
Asked about their 18-1 win against St. John’s College and now their 2-1 triumph over Queen’s College, Browne said that St. John’s was a very weak team, while Queen’s College proved to be a worthwhile competitor.
Coach of Queen’s College Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell, said that his team lost because they became too overconfident after scoring the first goal.
“But the team has improved a great lot and I must say thanks to all the players and as we lost it must be remembered that this team beat another team 18-1”.
According to Barnwell there were a number of opportunities for his team to capitalize on, but they failed to do so, but nevertheless he is still proud of them.
One of the players Dante Wilson said that his fellow team mates should be congratulated for their performance. “I think the game was lost in the defence, mistakes were made and maybe next year we can sharpen up”.
Meanwhile, GITC defeated Business School 6-0 at the Police Ground, Eve Leary. The scorers were Akeem Holder with three goals in the 19th, 34th and 43rd minutes, Hilary Hermanson in the 72nd minutes and Kusi Downer in the 7th and 74th minutes.
