The revitalized East Penitence Community Policing Group (CPG) and members of the recently formed East La Penitence Community Development Group (CDG) are repainting pedestrian crossings and directorial markings in the area.
This was done mainly at the intersections on the Mandela Public Road and Freeman Street; the main entrance to the community located opposite the East La Penitence Police Station and Vlissengen Public Road. The repainting will benefit Liana Nursery and St. Pius Roman Catholic Church students.
During these works, assistance was given by ranks of the East La Penitence Police Station to ensure the orderly flow of traffic.
According to the Public Relations Officers of the two groups Dhillon De Mendonca and Sherman Paul, the reason behind the initiative was to ensure that road markings located at central points within the community were clearly visible, noting that this would greatly serve the public at large, especially students using the roadways. They added that the initiative clearly demonstrated that they are more than just providing patrols to combat crime.
