Guyana suffered worst World Cup loss at home since 1988

The Golden Jaguars 4-0 defeat by Costa Rice at the National Stadium is the worst home defeat in a World Cup qualifier since April 1988.  The first time the National team contested a World Cup qualifier at home was July 4, 1976 when the Maurice Enmore led squad defeated Suriname 2-0 at the GCC Ground, Bourda.
Summary of Guyana’s World Cup matches at home show they defeated Grenada 5-2 in 1980 at the GCC Bourda.  Lost to Suriname 1-0 September 1980, GCC Bourda; Lost to Cuba 3-0 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, November 1980; Drew with Suriname 1-1 at the GCC Bourda in 1984.
Lost to Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 Camp Ayanganna; Lost to Suriname 2 – 1 GCC Bourda 1992; Lost to Grenada 2 – 1 GCC Bourda 1996; Lost to Grenada 3 – 1 Blairmont 2004; Lost to Suriname 2 – 1 Providence 2008; Lost to Costa Rica 4-0 Providence 2012.
