Heavy rainfall in the Ancient County continues to be a bother but nonetheless preparations are moving steadily apace for the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club horse race meet scheduled for the club’s Alness Corentyne Berbice facility on Caricom Day, Monday July 2 next.
Ten events are listed for the day with prize monies totaling more than $9M in cash, trophies and other memorabilia. The track, arguably one of the better local facilities with superb drainage and drying facilities, is being upgraded and turfites could expect improved racing conditions. Among the list of events are the Banks DIH sponsored ‘B and Lower’ class race over a distance of 1700M. The winner of this event carts off $1M and a trophy out of an overall offering of $2M. Then there is the race among the 3 year-old animals that comprises Guyana and West Indian bred horses for a winning take of $500,000 over 1600M.
The ‘E and Lower’ over a distance of 1200M will have a first prize of $500,000 while the race among the 2 year-old animals over 1100m will stake a winner’s purse of $450,000.
