Specifically organised to provide as much practice as possible for Team Guyana (Back Circle), the national line-up produced an impressive performance on opening night which must have instilled confidence in their supporters and the nation as a whole.
Tonight when they face Island All Star it is another opportunity for them to showcase their class in front of what is anticipated to be another massive crowd, at the East Ruimveldt Basketball Court, the home of the ‘Guinness Greatest of de Streets’ kings.
The champions will be playing in the final fixture of the night and they will once again be led by their prolific foursome which includes Philip Rowley, Daniel Favourite, Dexter Griffith and Alan Kennedy.
The Island All Stars combination is a consistent bunch and Team Guyana, though, they looked technically and tactically efficient and are the favourites to win the encounter, should not go into the duel over confident.
Though no name of repute is known to be on the Island All Stars list of players, they are a formidable unit and possess players who could create havoc for opposing teams on their day.
In the opening game, at 20:00 hrs Albouystown takes on Durban Street and this fixture should favour the former.
National player Andrew Murray Jnr. Will once again be expected to play a leading role in their quest for a second win and his support will come from another player, Devon Small, who’ve displayed the ability of being able to score consistently in this format of the sport.
The second game pits Broad Street versus Alexander Village and this matchup is an explosive one that resembles a virtual final.
Broad Street has already tasted success in this competition, having won the competition two years ago and they will be depending on the services of Jimmy Gravesande and Jamal Cozier to get them past a usually energetic Alexander Village, who will have in their line-up players the calibre of Shem Porter and Delon Williams.
The West Front Road and Tiger Bay matchup promises to be another scorching affair despite both teams suffering losses on opening night.
Both teams have progressed far in previous competitions so they know how to perform before a large crowd and usually have solid support from their respective communities which has become increasingly popular in the sport and known as the critical 12th man.,
All in all, it should be another electrifying night of action in a format that has its origins in Guyana and the brainchild of co-organisers Troy Mendonca and Marlan Cole that has been embraced by Beverage giants Banks DIH under the Guinness brand.
Eight teams divided into two groups are contesting the tournament that carries a first prize of $200,000, while the second, third and fourth placed finishers will take away $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, the teams that fail to qualify for the final four will each take home $15,000.
