Multi Cultural Radio Ltd, headed by overseas-based Guyanese broadcaster, Bobby Vieira,
has submitted a bid to lease the operations of Radio Roraima 101.1 FM through a Leased Management Agreement (LMA). The company which first submitted a similar proposal in March 2009 to then and former President Bharrat Jagdeo, was also among the numerous applicants for radio station licences since 2002.
Vieira, who is also Vice President of Operations at One Caribbean Radio in New York, indicated that the primary objective of the proposed lease was to create a format that can be related to radio as it were, featuring soft relaxing music, news and information.
The programme format will include a wide cross section of Guyanese and music from around the world, including light and contemporary reggae and vintage calypsos. He stated that the station’s intended format would be similar to what its mission will be, and that is “GUYANA’S LITE FM”.
The US- based journalist and broadcaster hopes to hear from the management of NCN as soon as possible, since it was rumoured that several other interested parties from outside of Guyana, have also been showing interest in the lease opportunity.
He cited his loyalty to the industry both home and abroad, as well as his 25 plus years in the broadcast industry experience, which more than qualifies him to land the opportunity. Vieira along with former GBC General Manager Fazil Azeez were the principal architects in the establishment of 98.1 FM. In fact it was Vieira who coined the phrase “HOT FM” for the now popular station. Bobby Vieira is a graduate of the College for Radio and Television Announcers, and is also a member of the prestigious Radio and Television Gallery of the US House of Representatives.
