JC Secondary book semi spot, ARMS, Aurora, EISS also through
Johanna Cecelia Secondary, Anna Regina Multilateral, Essequibo Islands Secondary and Aurora Secondary have secured their places in the semifinals of the Imam Bacchus and Sons Company 40-over Secondary schools cricket competition which continued last weekend at the Affiance ground on the Essequibo coast.
Last Saturday, Johanna Cecelia Secondary defeated Cotton Field Secondary by 9 wickets in a match which was reduced to 20 overs due to rain. Cotton Field batted first and were bowled out for 60 in 15.3 overs. Deolall Persaud and Christopher Bacchus top-scored with 13 each as Akenie Adams bagged 4-7 and was supported by Quincy Adams (4-19) and Keon Davis (2-6).
Johanna Cecelia then knocked off the required target in 6.4 overs ending on 61-1.Davis returned to hit an unbeaten 30 while Raj Parbattie made 15 not out.
On Sunday at the same venue, Anna Regina Multilateral got the better of Abramsville Secondary by six wickets. After the game was reduced to 30 overs due to rain, Abramsville took first turn at the crease and posted a healthy 162 before they were bowled out in 29 overs. Opener Ovindo Persaud stroked 41 while Akeel Wallace and Yougesh Persaud assisted with 37 apiece.
Jewan Chanderpaul and Sadeek Mohamed picked up 3-18 and 2-35 respectively. The interval between innings was delayed by another downpour causing the target to be reduced to 114 in 20 overs. Anna Regina Multilateral however encountered little hiccups in their chase responding with 117-4 in 18.2 overs.
Essequibo U-15 player Parmesh Parashutam led the scoring with 29 and was ably supported by Ymindra Persaud who finished unbeaten on 21. Yugesh Singh took 2-25.
Meanwhile the competition continues on Saturday with Johanna Cecelia facing Aurora in the first semi-final while Anna Regina Multilateral will take on Essequibo Islands Secondary of Wakenaam in the second semi on a date to be announced.
