Arson suspected in fire at Police Officer’s home
Police and Fire Service ranks yesterday recovered a quantity of raw gold, gold jewellery and other valuables on a dam not far from a house that is believed to have been deliberately set afire.
According to reports, a house located at Rewa Avenue, Lamaha Springs, was set afire sometime around 10:30 hours yesterday. The home owner, Police Superintendent Evan Graham, said he was attending a seminar when his secretary called and informed him that his home was on fire. The distraught man said when he arrived home he noticed a large crowd at his home and at least two fire tenders.
According to Graham, he also observed that a section of the roof on his house was broken so that the firemen could have gained entry to the burning building.

“The place is always properly secured since I live alone, so them (the firemen) breaking the roof is understandable. They needed to get in the building to out the fire,” Graham said. The house owner stated that almost everything in his home was damaged and he was told that the fire started in the middle bedroom in a walk-in closet.
“The place where this fire started has no electrical appliances no plugs, no switch or anything that can actually cause a fire,” Graham added.
Meanwhile, a source close to the investigation late yesterday afternoon revealed that so far everything is pointing to arson.
This publication was told that investigators found a hole in a wall and a sledge hammer was found on a septic tank at the back of the house. It is believed that the person(s) who set the fire entered the building through the hole.
There are reports, too, that a quantity of cash, gold jewellery and other valuables were found on a dam aback of the house. This publication understands that several other valuable items were packed in a bag in the house. The source said investigators also discovered several strange footprints in the yard where the hole was found.
Meanwhile, persons living in proximity said they heard strange noise in the area like items falling in the house, but paid no mind until they were alerted of the fire. The fire service was immediately informed and responded promptly. However given the time it took to gain entry to the building, most of the items in the building were damaged by the fire while others were water soaked. Investigations are ongoing, however up to press time yesterday there was no arrest.
