A gunman on a motorcycle shot a passerby and beat the Manager of the Churches Chicken outlet near Bourda Market in a brazen robbery yesterday that was reportedly recorded on security cameras.
Dennis Fitzpatrick of Albouystown, was shot in one of his legs. He underwent surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
According to police reports the store Manager Gregory Degannes was leaving the fast food outlet with cash when he was confronted by the bandits.
Kaieteur News was told that a supervisor observed two men on a motorcycle who were acting in a suspicious manner.
She attempted to warn Degannes but then one of the bandits fired a shot behind the Manager but hit Fitzpatrick who was shopping nearby.
Degannes tried to retreat into the restaurant but fell, and the men began to beat him. They then snatched a bag containing cash and fled.
Meanwhile at the hospital, Dennis Fitzpatrick told Kaieteur News that he was shopping at Bourda Market with his wife when he put his shopping bags down for a few minutes.
According o Fitzpatrick, he heard a loud sound and suddenly fell to the ground. While on the ground Fitzpatrick said he noticed two young men on a motorcycle. The man said he tried to pull one of them off of the motorcycle but failed.
Fitzpatrick was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. He is presently a patiently in the male surgical ward at the GPHC.
This newspaper was told that the police have managed to review the tape and the suspects have been identified. One police source said that one of the suspects is currently on bail, for allegedly committing another robbery. Kaieteur News was told that the suspect currently has over 13 armed robbery matters before the courts.
Only last week, armed bandits escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash after robbing the Church’s Camp Street, Georgetown outlet. According to reports two employees had accidentally left a back door ajar. The two bandits used this opportunity to pounce on the unsuspecting employees. The men then robbed a cashier before escaping.
