The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company’s (GT&T) ‘Love- Bollywood Style’ thrilled hundreds on Saturday evening on the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) tarmac and not even the heavy continuous rainfall could have put a damper on the evening’s proceedings.
Several finalists and former contestants in the GT&T’s Jingle and Song competition took the stage in duets, medleys and solos, thrilling the jam- packed University Square. But then rains came and poured and poured. The crowd left their seats for shelter, but shelter was limited since much of it was only available to the patrons in the VIP Section. It seemed like a repeat of what happened at the Albion Sports Complex a few months ago the same night Gail Ann Singh was crowned winner of the Bollywood segment of the competition.
On Saturday evening, GT&T again distributed their signature umbrellas to patrons, many of whom just stood in the rain and enjoyed the performances.
Performer after performer thrilled the crowd which went wild as soon as Joel Farouse took the stage and performed a medley with several females.
Then Adrian Dutchin and Jomo Primo took the stage with CEO Yog Mahadeo. They started to entice the crowd by performing some of their hits, but then, to the crowd’s amusement, Mr. Mahadeo interrupted them and reminded them that it was a Bollywood night.
They then sang to the crowd’s pleasing and delight the popular Indian hit ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, and the crowd went wild.
Perhaps one of the most intriguing parts of the event was a wedding proposal between an American couple who, in front of the entire gathering, made public their intentions to marry.
The rains cleared up by the show’s end, just in time for Mr. Mahadeo to present the keys to the new car to Gail Ann Singh, the GT&T Bollywood segment winner.
Fireworks began as Mr. Mahadeo drove the car down its ramps onto the tarmac and presented the keys to Singh.
Ms. Singh then entered be
hind the wheels of the veh
icle for the first time and was greeted by her mom and other well- wishers. Minutes later, she took to the stage.
Mahadeo, in addressing the gathering, said he was proud that “we have E- Magine Broadband in New Amsterdam, Rose Hall and Corriverton– and it is coming all over.”
Mahadeo also announced that later in the year, GT&T will be giving away a house, and the best thing is that customers will not have to “do anything special”.
“Every minute you talk, every minute you receive; every text you send, every text you receive, you get points for everything…and those points will allow you to be eligible for this draw”, he said.
