Six family members were injured after their car bearing registration PNN8659
was involved in a collision with another car, belonging to the former Minister of Foreign Trade, Dr. Henry Jeffrey.
At the scene, Dr. Jeffrey said that he had just left the University of Guyana (UG) and was returning home when the accident occurred.
He explained that he was on UG road waiting on the traffic light to change. When the light turned to green, he turned right and collided with the car which was heading west on the East Coast Demerara public road.
According to Dr. Jeffrey, the car was in his path and had jumped the traffic light which had the stop sign. He was of the impression that the driver of the other car was under the influence of alcohol.
But when Kaieteur News visited the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, another dimension to the story emerged. The driver, Kellon Nedd, was heading to Georgetown with his family.
Yesterday, Nedd was too distraught to speak. His 10-year-old daughter, a St. Lucia citizen, Herbalina, said that her father was driving straight on the road when the other driver drove out of the cross road and collided with them.
She said her mother, who was at the back of the car pitched to the other side of the
vehicle and burst her head, while her aunt, Stacy Nedd, was crying out for pain in the abdomen. Her baby sister, who is 10 months old, her five-year-old sister and her father sustained minor injuries.
