Two athletes from Grenada have been confirmed to compete at the Third Edition of the President’s/
Jefford Track and Field Classic, which is set to be staged on May 20, at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.
This is according to one of the members of the Organising Committee, who related this to the media yesterday.
The two Grenadians are Kimon Henry, who will compete in the Men’s 800m and 1500m, while the female representative is Kenisha Pascal, also slated to run against Guyana’s Marian Burnett over similar distances.
While not much was ventilated about Henry’s quality, Pascal is quite familiar with Guyanese opposition, having competed for a number of years against the likes of Alika Morgan and Euleen Josiah-Tanner within the Caribbean.
Last year in St. Kitts and Nevis, running in the CARICOM 10K race, Pascal was beaten by Guyanese Josiah-Tanner, but was able to avenge an earlier loss to another local runner in Alika Morgan, who had beaten her at a previous CARICOM 10K event.
Pascal seems to be well suited to the longer distances and will definitely have her work cut out against her more established opponent, Burnett, who all Guyana knows has battled with the best in the world over the middle distances and is quite comfortable in the 800m and 1500m races.
Last year, Pascal destroyed a strong field to win the OECS Half Marathon and her Coach Kwame Hypolite, who will be accompanying the two athletes to Guyana, commenting on her performance said he was happy with the level of improvement he has seen.
The athletes and Coach are scheduled to arrive in Guyana early on the morning of May 19. The organisers have indicated that they are awaiting the names of the representatives from Suriname.
