GT&T male & female 10/10 c/ships on the line
The Third-Edition of the GT&T 10/10 Nationwide Softball cricket competition ran in conjunction with the
Guyana Softball League and the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport is set for an action-packed finale today at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Just over two months ago, almost one thousands teams envisaged being on the grand stage of competing for the big prizes but only the top two males and females will enjoy that privilege this afternoon into evening.
While new female champions will be crowned when Trophy Stall Angels comes up against 4R Lioness, defending male champions, Wolf’s Warriors will be aiming to make it two in a row when they are challenged by old rivals Regal X1 in what is anticipated to be a humdinger of a battle.
And while the male third-place game will also be contested between Unstoppable and Rockaway Auto Sales, fans will have the added treat of witnessing the inaugural International Cup game between Guyana and Canada.
The Canadian team has said that they will upstage their more seasoned rivals but the local boys have promised that they will whip the Canadian boys.
The Guyana team was selected following trails matches at the Everest Ground on Wednesday and a strong team was selected following that historic process with Fazal Rafeek selected to lead the side. His deputy is Latchman Rohit.
The other members of the 15-man squad are Leon Moseley, Christopher Pollydore, Marvin Babb, John Percival, Gary Singh, Sharmendra Hardyal, Raul Reid, Lincoln Leander, Greg Singh, Khemraj Ramsundar, Devendra Thakurdeen, Surujpaul Deosarran and Safraz Esau.
Six stand-by players have also been named; Chandreshekar Arjune, Shalendra Ramnauth, Delon Williams,
Narine Bailey, Mahendra Singh and Vickash Dhaniram.
Canada will be led by Mitch Bacchus who will have Sunil Sankar as his deputy; among the other players are Peter Sukdeo, Munir Bashir, Sachin T. Gaindalall, Parmanand Persaud, Hemraj Persaud and Dinesh Dookhoo.
Game time today is 14:00hrs with action getting underway with the male 3rd place game.
