In paving the way for young athletes to come to the fore, the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has extended an invitation to all schools to participate in this year’s IAAF World Athletics Day Championships set for this Sunday (May 13) at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
The Inter Schools segment of the Championship for the Under-15 athletes (born as at December 31, 2012; born in 1997, 1998, 1999) will have the privilege to compete in one track and field event. The events for this age group are: 80m, 150m, 1000m and 2000m race walk, long jump, shot put and discus throw.
Events in the Youth category of Championship for Under-18 athletes (as at December 31,2012; born in 1995-1996) are 100m, 800m, 3000m, long jump, javelin, 3000m walk race for boys and 100m,400m, 1500m, long jump, discus, shot put and 2000m race walk for girls.
Athletes in the Youth category will only be allowed to compete in one event.
All outstanding athletes (first to third place) in each category (Inter Schools and Youth) will be rewarded with medals while the overall winner (School) of the Inter Schools category will be awarded with an IAAF trophy.
The AAG is advising that the relevant entries be placed on the correct forms before submitting same at the Olympic House, High Street, Kingston. Entry forms can also be submitted by Fax to tel # 223 5322 or via email: [email protected]. Closing date for entries is Friday May 11 at 12:00hrs. No entry fee will be charged.
