Cricket lovers are assured of top class action when a local softball team squares off with their Canadian counterparts to compete for the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company 10/10 International Cup competition scheduled for Saturday May 12 at the National Stadium, Providence.
The organisers spent the better part of three hours to select a team worth its salt to ensure that the locals cart off the honours. The players were required to engage in two matches where the selectors assessed their competence before the selection process. The final squad was picked based on these assessments.
Moments before announcing the final team composition, Executive Secretary of the Guyana Softball League, Donald Leonard complemented all the players on their high level of play while regrettably informing them that everyone could not be selected.
He urged those that were unlucky to keep training since a similar encounter is being planned for later in the year and they may be able to comprise that squad then.
Those selected are Fazal Rafeek (Captain), Latchman Rohit, Leon Moseley, Marvin Bobb, John Percival, Gary Singh, Sharmendra Hardyal, Raul Reid, Leander Lincoln, Safraz Esau and Greg Singh.
The standby players are, Khemraj Ramsundar, Davendra Thakurdeen, Surujpaul Deosaran and Christopher Pollydore. The Manager/Coach is David Harper.
