Exuding similar confidence of keeping their unbeaten records intact
while going all the way to the final and lifting the championship trophy are the Captains of opposing semi-finalists, Tracy Glasgow of 4R Lionness and Dianne Pompey of Rising Star.
The two sides will collide on Sunday at the Everest Cricket Club Ground, cognizant that they are just a few games away from glory in the 3rd GT&T / Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport / Guyana Softball League 10/10 nationwide cricket competition.
Dedication, commitment, discipline and teamwork are some of the qualities that have combined to bring these sides through. And while the big prize has become even more visible, it will take some catching up yet, to win it.
Rising Star, an Ann’s Grove based team, unlike the other three semi final teams who all have sponsors, have been doing it all on their own.
According to Captain Dianne Pompey, the team which has been together for just about 16 months now, is self sponsored.
“We have been doing it all on our own and thus far we have been quite successful. Our preparation is on target with the players improving all the time.”
Ms. Pompey informed that she was not happy with the performance of the team in their quarter final game, a nerve racking 1-run win over All Star Conquerors and they are aiming to be spot on for their clash against 4R Lionness, a much formidable opponent.
“Each player in this team is important to the cause and they understand that quite well as we have gotten this far as a result of team work.”
Apart from Pompey, the likes of Dianna Prescott, the Cambridge sisters, Mathawa and Nashela, and Gailand Stanford will spearhead the batting, while the bowling will centre on Pompey, Prescott, Mathawa and Stanford.
“We are looking forward to an exciting game and we encourage our fans from the East Coast area to come out in their numbers to support us. I would also like to express gratitude to GT&T and all who have had a part to play in making this competition a reality.”
The 4R Lionness’ have been on the prowl with the ultimate objective of walking away with the big prize come May 12 at the Providence Stadium. Standing in their way at least for now, is Rising Stars.
Lionness Captain Tracy Glasgow expressed confidence that the team possess the required talent to lift the coveted title this year. Preparations she noted have been going well with the players showing a high level of commitment to the cause.
“As long as we continue to keep the focus and play as a team, I don’t see any other team denying us the opportunity of winning this year. We have been able to limit all our opposing teams to less than 100 runs this year and that in itself is an achievement.”
Other players in the 4R Lionness line-up that are capable of blowing away any opposition are Monique Benn, Tracy Glasgow, Shemeeze Williams, Jeanette Daniels, Amanda Mohamed, Gangadey Singh and Shayan Goodluck.
Their sponsor 4R Bearings came in for high praise from Glasgow and the team members.
Game time on Sunday is 10:00hrs and fans can look forward to some enthralling action.
