GFF Super League…Buxton United and Amelia’s Ward victorious

Buxton United and Amelia’s Ward defeated their respective opponents Seawall and Den Amstel as play in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League continued on Tuesday last, at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
The battle between Buxton and Seawall saw both teams fail to register goals in the first half and fans had to wait until the 83rd minute when Buxton United’s Hugh Michael Phyll scored the lone goal of the game.
The encounter between Amelia Ward’s and Den Amstel saw both teams treating the fans to end to end action from the onset and Travis Waterton of Amelia’s Ward registered the first goal of the match in the 11th minute.
Den Amstel, however, was not fazed by the early setback and launched some relentless attacks of their own, but sturdy defending by Amelia’s Ward foiled all their attempts to gain the equalizer.
The score remained 1-0 in favour of Amelia’s Ward at lemon time.
One minute after the resumption, Rondel Hutson managed to score the equalizer, but the determine Warders created another opportunity to put themselves back in the ascendancy when a rewarding pass was made to Derwin Luke, who made no mistake in netting the ball in 57th minute.
Thereafter, Den Amstel was left with no choice but to initiate a full scale offensive onslaught, but once again, the visitors from the Mining Town held firm until the final whistle sounded to earn a well deserved victory.
The League continues on Sunday in Linden at the McKenzie Sports Club ground, with Amelia’s Ward and BCC Rosignol from 18:00hrs. The second game will see Milerock and Seawall lock horns from 20:00hrs.
Den Amstel and Alpha United will battle at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground from 15:45hrs.
