Proprietor of H. Gendalall Sons and Daughter Wholesale Depot, Hendchand Gandalall, of 531 Belle West Housing Scheme, Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara is now counting his losses after waking up and finding that his business place burglarised.
Gendalall said that the discovery was made at around 06:00 hours yesterday morning.
According to Gendalall, he is the sole distributor for Ansa McAl and Banks DIH products in the area. He said that he could not confirm the amount of stock that was removed from his premises, but noted that a large amount of cash was stolen.
The man told this publication that he secured his business place as he normally would on Tuesday night about 22:30 hours and retired to bed. “When I wake up this morning (Wednesday) I see the place break in and right away I called the Wales Police Station but they tell me that I have to go to the station to make a formal report before they visit the robbery scene,” he noted.
Out of frustration, Gendalall, who is also a member of the Community Policing Group reportedly telephoned the chairman of the policing group and the commander but no contact was made. Eventually Gendalall said he went to the Wales Police Station where he officially lodged a report.
The businessman said he has since provided the names of persons whom he suspected may have been responsible for the breakage. According to Gendalall, when he entered his business place he found several cartons of cigarettes on the pool table which the intruders apparently left behind.
He said that the focus was not on his house but rather, his business place. The man lives upstairs but claimed that he did not hear any unusual sounds during the night. He disclosed that one of his depots in Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara was robbed three times in quick successions about three years ago.
The robbers reportedly carted off $5million in those robberies. Due to the robberies, Gendalall was forced to close the business.
Again, he noted that recently, his delivery truck was stopped and robbed of more than $1.2million in stocks and cash. Ironically, he stated that despite being a member of the CPG, he is given the royal run around from members of the Guyana Police Force.
