Dear Editor,
It is with a profound sense of shock, anger, and disgust that I am responding to the report of the alleged “rape of a 9 year old” by her stepfather in the April 26 issue of Kaieteur News. The sordid details as related to your reporter by this innocent child should never have been revealed in public print.
I was under the misguided impression that such revelations were for the courts only but apparently I was wrong. In my opinion this is GUTTER REPORTING at its best. I would hope that God forbid something as shameful as this (and I am sure it will) occur again and your reporter is privy to such information it will not be reported in the public print for all to read.
Please Mr/Ms Editor, show some class and do the right thing, make an apology because a retraction now will serve no useful purpose the damage is already done.
Respectfully submitted by an angry Great Grandfather,
Nathaniel (Nat) Griffith
Editor’s note: News is about reporting the unusual. It is also about highlighting the sordid. Over the years we have learnt that by highlighting some issues we also instigate the necessary action.
