For a third time in almost three years, Africanized bees have attacked a Nelson Street, Mocha, East
Bank Demerara residence, this time seriously injuring four dogs.
Natasha Clarke, who resides at the house, said that she was inside when he heard a “buzzing sound” outside. The woman told Kaieteur News that when she looked through the window she saw the swarm of bees.
“I shouted to my father after I saw my son outside….he pulled him inside of the house and tried to rescue the dogs, which were still in the kennel,” Clarke said. The woman said her father managed to get two dogs out before the bees started attacking him. According to Clarke, her father had to run out of the yard and jump into a nearby trench.
Clarke said her mother, Janice Jeffrey, was also stung by the bees and had to be treated at the hospital. Further, Clarke said while the bees were attacking the dogs, several attempts to contact the Ministry of Agriculture proved futile.
According to the woman, for over three years her family has been trying to get the Ministry to send someone to remove the bees. Clarke said every time they called promises were made, but no one came. Up to press time it was unclear if anyone from the Ministry visited the home.
