Twenty-one year old Leroy Williams of 71 Norton Street, Lodge, was not required to plead to three counts of larceny and two counts of armed robbery when he appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The man was accused of robbing his victims on separate occasions while in Georgetown. The police alleged that on March 30, Williams robbed Cecil Stewart of two gold chains worth $160,000. On April 2, he reportedly stole from Vanessa Smith one gold chain valued at $20,000.
Williams was also accused of robbing Doodnauth Sookram on February 13, of a cell phone and cash, all totaling $65,000. On that same date Williams reportedly robbed Stephan Sookram, while armed with a gun, of one cell phone and cash that totaled $48,000.
The police then said that on March 19, with the use of a gun, he stole from Lassel Duke, cash totaling $29,940.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield argued against bail for the defendant on the grounds that the offences were very serious. Williams argued that he had been locked up for eight days without being told what he was held for.
The court however remanded Williams to jail and he will return to court on April 15.
