Residents of Campbellville are now working hand in hand to make their dreams of having a community recreational park a reality.
Kaieteur News spoke to the architect behind the plan, Russell Braithwaite, who noted that the initiative was further developed after Carl Carew, who works with the Community Bush Master Outpost in helping to develop indigenous villages in Guyana, saw his sketches for the park and proposed to work with him in bringing his drawings to life.
The two men, who have close relatives living in the area, along with block maker Trevor Kennedy, had door to door meetings with the residents in order to get an insight on some of the issues affecting them, and understand how the venture can benefit the community.
The idea of a fun park was proposed to them after many residents complained about the overgrown bushes on a large plot of land.
“Most people complained about the thieves, hanging around the bushes, and bad dogs attacking people,” Carew said.
As such, those bushes were cut down and the same plot will be used for the park.
A Mayor and City Council team has already reportedly visited the area.
Meanwhile, the builders yesterday met with representatives of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) to discuss plans of recreational and sports activities for the youths.
Kaieteur News understands that the majority of residents have agreed to pay a small fee which will go towards the upkeep of the new ‘Campbellville Fun Park’.
“Not everybody, but most of them agreed to pay a small fee so that the men with brush cutters can weed the place. The plan is to upkeep it and make it look as new as possible, for as long as possible,” Carew said.
The presentation ceremony for the park will be conducted this evening at its location in Campbellville Housing Scheme.
Anyone wanting to either lend a helping hand or contribute financially to the project, can either visit the site, or contact the project managers on telephone numbers- 698-3300 or 695-9551.
