– said he had debts to pay
A man, who said that stealing was the only solution to clearing his debts, was yesterday jailed for
18 months when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry.
To make matters worse, 33-year-old Sheldon Forde admitted to the court that he had previously been jailed for one year on a charge of simple larceny.
According to the police, Forde, on March 27, at Thomas Lands stole 150 feet of telephone cable property of the Guyana Telephone and Telegram Company (GT&T). The cable was worth $160,000.
To this charge, Forde pleaded guilty and told the court that he stole the cable because he had debts.
“I had debts my Worship. They had people who I owe and I had to pay them. I tried to do little things round de market but….”
The court after taking into consideration all factors, informed Forde of his sentence. He smiled as he was handcuffed and escorted out of court.
