Corporate support for the annual Aruwai Regatta 20/20 knock-out cricket competition has been very encouraging this year, according to organisers, D&C Promotions. With a top prize of One Million Dollars (sponsored by Aruwai Mining Enterprise) at stake and competition set to bowl off on Saturday at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, Scotiabank, Scotts Service Station and Bobby’s Biker Crew have all joined forces to ensure that this year’s tournament surpasses all others.
Scotiabank Bartica Manager Mr. Quacy Williams handing over the company’s contribution to Ms. Cianna Persaud of D&C Promotions stated that Scotiabank has an established record of supporting community sports and growing with events.
Williams noted that they have been following the progress of the tournament which attracts teams from around Guyana and they are very pleased to be on board again as they are confident that the competition will grow in to a huge one over the ensuing years.
Crowd support, he said, has always been good and this year, Scotiabank expects nothing less.
Dave Scott, CEO of Scotts Service Station was also loud in praise for the organisers who he said have brought a quality tournament to a community that is not necessarily in the limelight when it comes to 20/20 cricket.
“This tournament has however proven the critics wrong and once you have good organisers backed up by sponsors who understand their roles, you will have exciting sports events and this is what D&C Promotions has proven over the few short years they are doing this tournament.”
Scott, himself a fierce powerboat racer, noted that the tournament brings out a lot of talented cricketers who display their skills in a competitive manner at the same time, entertaining the hundreds of fans.
PRO of Bobby’s Biker Crew, FIFA Referee Roland Persaud also expressed his entity’s pleasure at being associated with the tournament.
Eight teams including defending champions New Line Cavaliers will be clashing for the lucrative top prize, keeping in mind that the format is knock-out.
The other competing teams are D’Edward Sports Club of Berbice, East Bank Essequibo, South Essequibo, Wakenaam, Challengers, Rising Star and Orient.
Aruwai Mining Enterprise is the sponsor of the top three prizes which amounts to $1,750,000.
The opening ceremony on Saturday commences at 18:30hrs at the Bartica Community Centre Ground. Matches will continue on Sunday at the same venue.
