The Guyana Police Force has added 27 new recruits to its ranks during a
graduating ceremony held Monday at the Richard Faikall Police College at Suddie.
The recruits were being trained since July, 2011 with an initial batch of 30. However, two had dropped out while the other had been sent to the band room.
Present at the ceremony were Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee; Acting Commissioner of Police, Leroy Brumell; Commander of “G” Division, Paul Williams, Region Two Chairman, Parmanand Persaud and other senior police officers.
Commander Paul Williams in his address disclosed that the force has been boosted with a new fleet of vehicles.
He noted too that a process of modernisation continues to unfold in the police force with increased cooperation between the communities and the Joint Services. Williams urged the recruits to lift the standard of the force.
Rohee, in his message to the graduants, insisted that the structure of the police force continues to adopt a more modern, technological and strategic dispensation in its operations. He urged the new recruits to adopt an attitude of “professionalism”, both on and off duty and be more community-minded. This is critical for crime fighting. He reminded the recruits that their conduct will always come under scrutiny.
The new recruits would be on a two-year probation.
“The decisions you make while on duty will have consequences on yourselves and in the future.”
The Best Graduating student was Constable 21499, Junior Louis while Constable 21488, O’Neil Grenville was adjudged the Best Drill student. Constable 21508, Rawle Haynes, copped an award for the Best Shot. The Most Improved student was Constable 21524, Stephen Lewis.
