Inter Ward Soccer tournament continued at the Georgetown football Club (GFC) Ground over the past weekend thus signaling what is to come as the tournament continues.
The action will continue tonight when North East La Penitence tackle Bourda, Kitty oppose Den Amstel, while Wortmanville and Pouderoyen will play the final match in tonight’s fixtures.
Bourda has earned the right to play in today’s fixtures following a 4-2 whipping on Werk-en-Rust following penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended on a 3-3 stalemate. Adrian Lawrence netted twice for Bourda with Roy Stanton tucking in the other goal. Omalo Williams then netted twice, while Troy Lord’s contribution brought the game back to equilibrium before the extra time failed then penalties forced decider.
Kuru Kuru also registered a 4-1 penalty win over Lodge after a nil all game that forced extra time and subsequently a penalty shootout. Kitty needed no extra time against Wales as Anthony Sancho netted thrice with one apiece from Andrew Gibson and Sean O’Neal. Orin Williams, Leroy Williams and Kevin Richards all netted but their efforts were rendered inconsequential as Kitty walked away with the spoils 5-3.
In other results, Mocha outhustled Charlestown 4-1 on penalty kicks after the two teams battled to a 1-1 stalemate up to regulation to time. Devon Jeffers and Edward Grant were the respective scorers for Mocha and Charlestown.
Alberttown hammered South Sophia 5-0 with Michael Henry hitting a hat-trick, while Colin Harris and R. Stewart supported with one apiece.
West Ruimveldt Estate were also in winners’ row with a 3-0 drubbing over Grove. Hubert Pedro netted twice, while Michael Oie completed the onslaught for the winners.
Meanwhile, the players were offered another incentive to perform when Keishars donated US$100 to the Most Valuable Player, while similar amounts were donated by two other entities for the player that scores the most goals and the one that scores the most impressive goal. To date, several players are closely grouped to cart off the prize for the most goals scored including Anthony Sancho and Michael Henry (3 apiece) and Hubert Pedro (2). Kissoon’s Furniture Store has also donated a fan for the MVP.
Meanwhile, Banks DIH Ltd has donated the top prize of $500,000, while Digicel will take care of the second prize of $250,000. Beepat and Sons has donated $150,000 for the team finishing in the third place, while the Guyana Beverage Company will take care of the $100,000 fourth prize.
Several other corporate entities have also contributed to the success of the tournament including MACORP, John Fernandes Ltd, Nazar Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise, Lombard Street, CIDI, General Equipment Guyana Ltd, New Thriving Restaurant, Sterling Products and Courtney Benn Construction Company.
