Emotions were running high yesterday with dancers, students and teachers of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) after they learnt that their dance instructor/guru, Sunil Lal Lal, was suspected to have committed suicide.
Reports are that the 28-year-old man called one of his colleagues to visit his house just after 24:00 hrs. When the dead man’s colleague arrived at Lal Lal’s home shortly after the unexpected invitation, Lal Lal was still alive. However there was “blood like vomit” on the floor in his home.
A source revealed that Lal Lal was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is said to have succumbed. One of his students, Nirmala, was at a loss for words after learning that the man was dead. She posted a simple note on his Facebook page expressing sorrow and shock to know that Lal Lal was no more.
“You left us shocked for this was unexpected. Blessed were we to have such a wonderful and caring guruji like you.”
Meanwhile, another girl, identified as Maria, joined the list of persons who expressed their sorrow on the internet.
“Guruji you have left us in shock today (yesterday). God has blessed me as your student in having such a patient and caring guru…”
Kaieteur News understands that Lal Lal had only arrived in Guyana a few months ago where he began training persons in the art and skills of Indian dancing, particularly the Khatak dance.
Arrangements are being made to have the body flown back to India. A post mortem examination is to be conducted.
