Eight-year-old Ashley Gouvia is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation
(GPHC)’s Pediatric Ward, nursing injuries to her body as a result of an accident yesterday in West Coast Berbice (WCB).
The incident is believed to have occurred at Kingelly Village, WCB sometime after 07:00 hrs.
According to the child’s grandmother, Marie Hawker, her granddaughter had left home to attend the #29 Primary School when the accident occurred.
She said that she was not at the scene but was told that Ashley was crossing the road when she was struck down.
The school girl fell to the ground and was later taken to Fort Wellington Hospital before being transferred to the GPHC.
Yesterday, the worried grandmother told Kaieteur News that the girl will have to spend “nights” in the hospital because of the injuries.
“She got bruises on her skin and a long cut to her private part because the pick-up hit her to her side,” the grandmother said.
The driver of the pick-up is said to be in police custody.
