Some 28 Councillors of the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) on the Essequibo Coast have been sworn in by Minister within the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government Minister, Norman Whittaker.
Whittaker in his message, said the swearing in of the Councillors, for there respective local NDCs, was done primarily because of the present shortages of previously elected members. The last elections were held in 1994.
He warned them to attend Council meetings regularly and work towards the development process within the respective NDCs.
The Evergreen/Paradise NDC now has five new Councillors- Rajkarran Ramrattan, Ronsard Boodram, Ezie Bourne, Malini Bharat and Wazifa Samad.
Sworn in for the Good-Hope/Pomona NDC were four persons- Moodiram Beepat, Gayadyal Ramnauth, Tumeshwar Ramnauth and Andy Ramnarine.
At the Charity/Urasara NDC, six new councilors were sworn in- Vanessa Lowe, Cavita Perreira, Somawattie Persaud, Subode Kishore, Anastasia Vanlewin and Diane Correia.
The Aberdeen/Zorg-en-Vlugh NDC has four new Councillors – Haimraj Hamandeo, Marlon Singh, Tomesh Tacurdeo and Ravindra Deonarine, while the Aurora/Good Hope NDC has nine- including Kumar Dass, Charran Sarabjeet, Ramnarine Ragubar, Harry Surupaul, Paramanand Singh, Rukmin Persaud, Khemraj and Khandai.
Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Alli Baksh, who was on hand to witness the swearing in, congratulated the new Councillors and urged them to work to develop their respective NDCs.
The swearing in of the Councillors was also witnessed by Regional Chairman, Parmanand Persaud, and other officials.
