It was an action packed day of racing when the Ryan Crawford Memorial
Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) in collaboration with the Ituni and Phoenix Lodges held a grand annual one day Fund raising Horserace meet in aid of charity on Sunday last at the club’s track at Alness Corentyne, Berbice.
The six race meet was held in front of an appreciative crowd which saw Work Force taking the feature E class event.
Running out of the Desmond Vibert racing stable of West Coast Berbice, Work Force worked up a sweat to score a gate to pole victory in the feature E class 1400M event and the $250,000 top money and trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited. Ridden by the veteran Jockey Desmond, the animal showed tremendous speed down the back stretch to open a sizable lead. Down the home stretch the leader was challenged by Bridle Stone Corner of the Crawford stable, but it was much too late as the animal had done enough to stay ahead and chalked up its fifth win on the race track in Guyana. Bridle Stone Corner came in a close second ahead of Face the Music and Miracle Run.
Northern Dancer of the Asrafali Racing stable of the Upper Corentyne and ridden by Jamaican Jockey Andron Findley rose to the occasion to score its first win in its third start as it took pole position in the G class 1100M event. The animal came through with a blaze of speed as it prance to the front to take the $180,000 first prize and the Eureka Lab trophy ahead of Face the Music, Bridal Stone Corner and Stormy Deal.
The H & Lower 1400M event was well won by Savion running out of Senior Counsel Marcel Crawford of Alness Corentyne stable. Jockey Winston Apadhu took charge down the back stretch and did not let up as the animal steamed home ahead of Funny Sided, Sun Razor and De Gump. The win was worth $140,000 and the Eureka Lab trophy.
The I2 and lower 1300M race saw a ding dong battle between Apostle of the Jeenarine stable and ridden by Nascimento, winning a close contest from and Mona Lisa of the Crawford stable to cart off the $110,000 top money and trophy compliments of Delmur Company Limited and the Phoenix and Ituni Lodges. Sun Razor and Silver Kid rounded out the money.
The P&P Syndicate and RCMTC sponsored 1400M I3 and J and K event, saw jockey Prem Chandra riding Black Water of the Dinnanauth stable to victory ahead of it’s My Time, Speed Vision and MacGyver. The win was worth $100,000 and the Doodnauth Persaud trophy.
MacGyver of the Vibert Garret stables and ridden by Jockey Desmond was too magical for its opponents as it won the L class 1300M event compliments of Dequan Trading and Shipping company and the Martin Singh Trophy from Princess Bayaya, Lady secret and Windy Killer.
Veteran Jockey Desmond was adjudged the top rider of the day with the Marcel Crawford stable the top stable on show. They received accolades compliments of Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market and the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities.
