Four persons who allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl from Berbice have been charged in connection with the incident.
Kaieteur News understands that two of the suspects, including a taxi driver are from Berbice. They are likely to appear in court this week.
The other two suspects are from Tuschen, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to a source, police have received reports that the female suspect, identified as “Bibi”, has been threatening a member of the Tuschen Community Policing Group (CPG).
This newspaper was told that the CPG members of Tuschen, WCD, were the ones who assisted in identifying and arresting “Bibi”.
It is alleged that a CPG member filed a complaint that a particular vehicle was ‘circling’ his home.
Meanwhile, the family of the teen has sought legal representation and was told to return to the police station(s) today. Reports are that the alleged victim lives in Suriname and was visiting her sister’s residence on March 9 at Corentyne, Berbice when a young man, aided by a female, abducted her.
According to a family friend, the girl’s relatives made a report at the Whim and New Amsterdam Police Stations.
They had suspected their neighbours to be involved with the girl’s disappearance yet were unable to prove it.
It is alleged that the grandparents overheard neighbours mentioning the names “Bibi” and “Tuschen” with reference to the missing girl.
This prompted them to make a report at the Leonora Police Station and then to Tuschen on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD).
Kaieteur News was told that members of the Tuschen Community Policing Group (CPG) began searching for “Bibi” and eventually located her.
“They picked her up and she said her uncle has the girl and when the CPG got to the uncle he said it was Bibi who had her,” a source said.
On March 15, the girl was reportedly ‘dropped off’ at the Whim Police Station by two persons and was allegedly taken into the station before her parents arrived.
It is alleged that the ranks took a statement from the teen without her guardians being present and when they arrived, told them to sign it.
Her grandparents reportedly cannot read.
Kaieteur News understands that on March 16, ranks conducting investigations found another 15-year-old girl in a house at Tuschen. This was the same house that “Bibi” lived in and the other girl claimed she was kidnapped and locked up in during the past week.
The other girl who was found is said to hail from Canje, Upper Corentyne, Berbice and claimed that her family had “disowned her”. She is said to have been living in Bibi’s house for two weeks before ranks discovered her.
Acting Police Commissioner Leroy Brummell subsequently ordered an investigation into the allegations.
