-triple headers on today

Action in the Mayor’s Annual Knockout (MAKO) Inter-ward Football tournament continues today with a thrilling triple header after an opening double header kicked off things featuring four top teams (Tiger bay, Uitvlugt, West Ruimveldt and Stewartville) Friday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
The matches, which gets underway from 4:30pm, will see Alberttown and South Sophia setting the atmosphere for the crowd and their supporters as they battle for supremacy in the opening salvo.
Alberttown line up will see the likes of Delon Cadogan, Michael Henry and Gregory Denny, while the Smith brothers, Erwin and Peter along with Terrance Clarkson spearhead South Sophia.
The second match, which features a number of siblings, promises to be a crowd pleaser. Charlestown and Mocha will spar and the lineup for Charlestown includes the Gravesande boys, Jimmy and Rocky along with Kevon Payne. Mocha’s challenge features the Hope brothers (Seon and Stephen), the Ramsey boys (Amos and Llyton) and the Stewarts (Derville and Orville).
The final game of the night will be a showdown between West Ruimveldt Estate and Grove from 8:30pm.
Stellon David along with the Pedro family (among them Michael, Hubert and Wendell) will be the forefront players for West Ruimveldt Estate. The Mathews family along with Sherman Doris, Dominic Garnett and Orson Francois will lead Grove when the battle begins.
Meanwhile, play in Friday’s matches left two teams, Uitvlugt and Stewartville disappointed after facing defeat from their opponents, Tiger Bay and West Ruimveldt respectively.
The ghetto team, Tiger Bay smashed Uitvlugt 3-0 in the opening contest to set the motion for the other contest which started 8:30pm.
When the battle began in the first half, the men in yellow (Uitvlugt) displayed their technical skills and maneuvered the ball around the field to keep the attacking Tigers off.
On the resumption, the Tigers hunted their prey fiercely and the deadlock was broken when Okanie Fraser netted in the 59th minute after dribbling Uitvlugt’s keeper in the 6 yards box and scored to the left upright of the goal.
The other goal came seven minutes after when the keeper gently tapped the ball out of the 6 yards box which landed into the path of Rensford Coleridge who made no mistake in kicking the ball beyond the reach of the keeper in the 66th minute.
Uitvlugt’s ball possession on the field were shaky and Tigers’ possession were just right to create the final goal scoring opportunity to close their account on a 3-0 victory. The last goal was easily netted when Calvin Shepherd scored after receiving a pass from his teammate in the 6 yards area, Shepherd quickly settled the ball and took a powerful left foot shot which sent the ball flying pass the keeper in the 69th minute.
Tiger Bay kept their opponents at bay in the reminding minutes of the game by defending their territory.
The last game of the night saw Stewartville facing a 1-2 defeat from West Ruimveldt when Nedd Fraser and Eusi Phillips scored to leave Stewartville in shock.
Fraser’s goal in the 28th minute was registered when he kicked the ball to the far left-side of the goal.
The second goal was possible when Ruimveldt earned a free kick, Phillips goal in the 49th minute tricked the keeper who thought the ball was coming directly to him but swerved with aid of the breeze.
After making numerous attempts to score, Stewartville first reply was netted by Owen McGarrell in the 70th minute. With 20 minutes playing time left, the Ruimveldt boys made it their duty to halt all threatening balls from Stewartville to secure their win.
