With Guyana’s junior cyclist’s showing encouraging consistency since the start of the 2012 season,
the senior riders have been constantly under pressure to show their worth.
The exciting duel between youth and experience is set to continue when the inaugural Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycling Club (LBFCC) Baker’s Memorial Classic Cycle Meet, sponsored by the Baker’s Family and the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) comes off on April 1.
This much anticipated event will be held at the Amelia’s Ward Circuit in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden pedaling off at 11:00hrs.
Keen contests are expected to be the order of the day with Linden’s emerging riders set to defend home turf against their City rivals.
The junior division will feature the likes of Paul DeNobrega, Raynauth Jeffrey, Raul Leal, Kurt La Rose against home boys Michael and Mantel Anthony, Akeem Arthur and Gordon Sampson.
Leading the home charge in the senior category will be Orville Hinds who has been featuring in the top six consistently, along with Mark Lewis and Rastaff O’Selmo.
Quite an experienced and solid challenge will come from the City in the form of Robin Persaud, Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay, Alonzo Greaves, Walter Grant-Stuart, Eric Sankar, Geron Williams and the Linden bred warrior, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams. On the distaff side Hazina Barrett will lock horns against Naiomi Singh.
Races in the following categories will be contested: BMX 6- 9 years, BMX 9 – 12 years, BMX 12-14 years, BMX Open, juveniles, juniors, categories 1, 2, 3 and 4, team time trials, mountain bikes, females and veterans.
