Guyana and Marlins swimmer Jessica Stephenson has just returned with two of her Marlins
team mates Dylan Carter and Joshua Romany from the 4-day Southern Sectionals Swim Champions Series in Orlando, Florida.
The Meet invited the best swimmers from the Southern United States (including swimmer of the year Ryan Lochte) as well as foreign swimmers from as far afield as Greece (who sent their Olympic qualified breast stroker) to compete in a FINA sanctioned Meet.
Stephenson competed in the only two (2) breaststroke events in the Meet, the 100 and 200m. Beginning with the 100m Jessica entered the Meet seeded 21 out of 119 swimmers, but swam a PB in the morning preliminary heats to ensure a place in the B finals and finished again with a PB of 1:15.17 to take 11th place.
In the 200m, Jessica was seeded 22nd out of 110 females and again swam for a place in the B final, she shaved a second off her previous PB to make a new PB of 2:42.70 and again earning an 11th place finish.
Stephenson said she was pleased with her performances especially the new personal best times and also her ability to make the finals amongst such top class breaststrokers.
The talented Guyana swimmer will next be swimming for Guyana in the upcoming Carifta swimming championships which takes place from April 12 – 16 in Nassau, Bahamas.
