The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Athletic Club will be hosting a developmental meet on Sunday at
their ground which attracted hundreds of Guyanese last year when the Annual Joint Service Athletic Sports. The Defence Force ambushed defending champs Police Force to steal a one point victory in the exciting three day athletic meet.
Speaking with the Coach of the Guyana Defence Force Athletic Club, which has two athletes who are currently training at the High Performance Training Centre in Jamaica to make the qualifying standard in the 100m and 200m for the London Olympic Games in August, Robert Chisholm stated that the preparations are currently in process for the meet and added that the meet will be Open for both track and field events.
Asking Chisholm about the listed events for the day, it was revealed that standard races from the 100m sprint dash to the 5000m will be under the starter’s mark. He also stated that the field events athletes will have their chance of competing as well in the javelin, shot put and discus.
Posing the question on whether long and triple jump will be on the list, the coach disclosed that the two events will remain unanswered since those are the only two events which are currently left to be prepared, “Once the pit preparation is finish and ready then those two events will jump off.”
This publication was also made to understand that the four sprinters (Tevin Garraway, Stephan James,
Chavez Ageday and Davin Fraser that qualified the CARIFTA games will be competing against the other male relay teams in the 4X100m.
The first race for the developmental meet will commence at 10:30hrs.
