After four weeks of being missing, the teenager who ran away from the Hauraruni Girls’ Home on
the Linden Soesdyke Highway has finally been found.
The girl’s sister told Kaieteur News that public-spirited persons had called to inform her that her 16-year-old sister, Shanice Sampson, was staying with some friends at a house in Campbellville, Georgetown. The police from the Alberttown Police Station were informed and subsequently brought the girl home to her family.
The teenager ran away from her room at the hostel, following a movie night on February 16.
It was reported that the home is being run by the Ministry of Human Services. However, Director of Child Care Services in Guyana, Ann Greene, refuted this stating that the Ministry does not manage, but monitors the home.
The Child Care Protection Agency had been investigating the teen’s disappearance.
