The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club in collaboration with Jumbo Jet Auto Sales stages the Guyana Cup Fever 2012 Horserace Meet on April 1 at the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at Number 6 Village, West Coast, Berbice. Entries close on Sunday March 25 and no late entries will be allowed.
The feature race will be for B and Lower racehorses over a distance of 1,400 meters and the winners will ride away with $1.5 Million. The second prize is $75,000, third prize $375,000 and fourth prize $187,000.
The three-year-old Guyana Open event which should include horses bred in Guyana and the Caribbean has a first prize of $600,000 and will be contested over a distance of 1,200 meters. The second prize is $300,000, third $150,000 and fourth $75,000.
The E and Lower event over 1,200 meters carries a winner’s prize of $500,000. The second prize for this race is $250,000, the third $125,000 and the fourth $62,500. The four-year-old open for Guyanese and West Indian bred horses carries the identical prize money as the E and Lower race and will be run over the same distance.
The three-year-old Open for horses bred in Guyana and the Caribbean will also be contested over 1,200 meters and attracts a first prize of $400,000, $200,00 for the second placed horse, $100,000 for the horse finishing third and a fourth prize of $50,000. The G and Lower, H and Lower, I3 and Lower and Division 1, 2, & 3 races will all be run over a distance of 1,200 meters.
The G and Lower winner gets $400,000, the top horse in the H and Lower takes home $300,000, the first prize for the I3 and Lower is $200,000 and the winner of the Division 1,2 &3 gets $150,000.
Organising Secretary Compton Sancho informed that the racetrack is in excellent condition and a scorching day of racing is anticipated in this the first meeting at the West Berbice track.
He noted that over 80 of the leading racehorses including several new imports have entered and their owners have been sparing no quarters as they get their horses into top shape to cash in on this lucrative meet with over $10M on offer.
Fans are encouraged to come out in their numbers as the infrastructure works at the venue has been completed as their comfort is guaranteed. Sancho noted that Banks DIH and Digicel are the main sponsors for the event.
All races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse racing Authority and among the conditions are; the club reserves the right to cancel or refrain any race, while if unless five horses commence the race no third prize will be paid.
If at least seven horses fail to start any race the fourth prize will not be presented.
Horses are subject to reclassification pending to any race meet prior to this one.
