A family of five is now homeless at Bartica as fire suspected to be of an electrical
origin completely destroyed the wooden two- storeyed building at Lot 26 Fifth Avenue and Third Street, Bartica, Region Seven.
This publication was told that the property belonged to the late and legendary boat captain, James Bradford. The fire struck at around 01:50 hours on Tuesday.
The house was occupied by Oswald Fisher, his wife and three children. This publication was told that Fisher had only left last Monday for an interior location to conduct his business.
Fisher’s wife and their children were asleep in the upper flat of the building and were only aware that it was on fire after they began to experience breathing problems due to the smoke. The woman and her children immediately fled the building.
Eyewitnesses claimed that they saw flames coming through the upper air-vents from the bottom flat. Two loud explosions were heard. This publication was told that within minutes, the entire building was burnt flat.
According to reports from out of the area, another nearby building which belongs to the Chanderbands, was scorched.
Persons expressed their gratitude to the Bartica Fire brigade for their speedy response and efforts in attempting to put out the blaze.
