– defending champs New Line Cavaliers among 8 vying for $1M 1st prize
With the top prize of One Million dollars and trophy at stake, the battle lines will be drawn on Saturday March 31 when the Annual Aruwai Mining Enterprise sponsored Regatta Twenty20 knock-out cricket tournament bowls off at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
Half a million is set aside for the losing finalist with half that amount going to the 3rd place winner in what is anticipated to be the biggest tournament in the three year history of the competition.
Defending champions New Line Cavaliers will have to come good if they are to retain the title and bragging rights for another year. The ante has been upped with regards to the cash prizes so players are expected to go the extra mile. Fans are in for an exciting and entertaining time with games being played under lights.
The other teams listed to compete are D’Edward Sports Club of Berbice, East Bank Essequibo, South Essequibo, Wakenaam along with home teams Challengers – losing finalists last year – Rising Star and Orient.
Aruwai Mining Enterprise has been gracious in sponsoring all the cash prizes totaling $1,750,000. Other sponsors on board so far are: Carib, Five Starr Minerals, El Dorado Trading, Mahadeo Investments, Hopkinson Mining, New Modern Hotel, Mice Trucking Service, Sheik Afrose, MZ Speedboat Service, Mike Conway Mining, Dave Scott Service Station, Dino Investments and Scotiabank.
The opening ceremony is set for March 31 from 18:30hrs at the Bartica Community Centre Ground with matches continuing on Sunday April 1 and 21, with the third place and final set for April 22.
