Wazim Hasnoo in a time of one hour, 40 minutes rode away with the
‘B’ Division Community Policing Group anniversary cycle road race which was held on Sunday on the West Coast of Berbice.
The event which covered a distance of 35 miles with some 16 cyclists, pedaled off around 09:00 hrs in front of Stretch D Dollar Supermarket at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice and proceeded to Weldaad Police Station before returning to its place of origin.
The race which was keenly contested saw Roy Millington riding in second ahead of Brian Harris third and Rohan Persaud fourth.
Hasnoo, Millington and Harris made an early break and battled through the upward joinery with Hasnoo having the better of the exchange. By the time the risers turned back the chasing pack was closing on the front riders. However an accident involving the chasing pack which included top cyclist Neil Reece, Persaud, Elijah Brijader and Dwight Holder among others halted their advance. Persaud first crashed into Brijader thus felling Reece and Holder also in the process with the latter two being unable to complete the event.
Brian Harris was the top rider among the juniors ahead of Elijah Brijader.
The juvenile category was won by Andrew Green with Osafo Atkins and Adriel Ross coming in second and third respectively.
The 12-14 cyclists began their competition at the Fort Wellington Police Station and saw
Omaro Crawford, Andrew Hicks, and Renako Ross occupying the top three spots. The lone veteran was Syborne Fernandes.
Hasnoo for his dominance sprinted away with six of the ten sprint point prizes with Harris taking three and Brijader one.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindradat Budram was on hand to help in the distribution of the prizes and offer words of congratulation to the participants. He was assisted by members of the Community Policing group.
Cycling Coach Randolph Roberts was the coordinator. (Samuel Whyte)
